Is It Worth Fixing an Old Mac? MacBook Repair Adelaide
Macs last. We regularly service 2015 MacBook Pros that still work hard every day. But there comes a point on every machine where putting more money in is no longer the right call. Here is how we help customers decide.
The 50% rule
If the repair quote is less than half the cost of a comparable replacement, fix it. If it is more, it is usually time to upgrade.
Example: a 2019 MacBook Air with a $450 screen repair quote, when a new entry M-series MacBook Air is around $1700 — easy yes to the repair.
Repairs almost always worth doing
- Battery replacement ($199–$349) — gives 3+ more years of life
- Keyboard replacement on butterfly-era MacBooks (covered for some models under Apple's service program)
- SSD upgrade on older Intel MacBook Pros
- Logic board liquid damage on M1/M2/M3 machines — these are expensive to replace, so repair pays off
When to walk away
- Pre-2015 MacBook with a major logic board fault
- Display + battery + keyboard all dying at once on a 2017 model
- macOS no longer supported (no security updates) and hardware is failing
What we repair at One Systems
